HELLO HOOMAN, I’M Mastiff

I am a Mastiff, one of the most ancient dog breeds. My ancestor- the Molossus, is believed to be 5,000 years old. Back then, I used to be a vicious hunting dog. However, nowadays, I am a kind-hearted dog with enormous size. As a matter of fact, if someone can accommodate my size and my drool, I can become a fine companion for him.

MORE ABOUT ME

PERSONALITY AND TEMPERMANT

Typically, the Mastiff’s personality is a perfect blend of courage, obedience, good nature, and looks. On top of that, the current generation of Mastiff is always dignified, but never vicious or shy. Plus, this breed is generally patient, loyal, and affectionate towards the family. In reality, the Mastiff will protect the family, no matter what. In addition to that, this breed doesn’t like conflicts amongst family members. As a matter of fact, it will step in between the arguing members. Even though this breed looks tough on the outside, Mastiff is a sensitive dog breed, which, when not treated properly, can become shy, fearful, and aggressive.

All-in-all, the Mastiff is an excellent breed to pet, but owning this powerful dog is a commitment, with some responsibilities. Importantly, never get rough with a Mastiff and don’t allow the body else to do so.

CHARACTERISTICS

The Mastiff is not the right breed for novice owners and apartment dwellers. However, it is perfect for people looking for a big dog and lots of love to offer.

What’s more, a well-socialized Mastiff is likely to be normal around strangers. However, if it senses some danger, it will immediately step in between the owner and the threat. It won’t escalate to an extreme response unless the threat continues. And if thieves are unlocking to enter into a Mastiff’s home, they will face some severe consequences.

ENERGY LEVEL

The Mastiff being a giant dog breed, is not that energetic like some other dog breeds such as Border Terrier. In fact, this breed can be outright lazy but needs exercise like anyone else. Additionally, the body of a Mastiff can overheat quite quickly, and its joints can be damaged from running. Hence, it can be challenging for owners to provide the proper amount of exercise to keep Mastiff fit, while not putting too much stress on its body.

PHYSICAL

Considering the size of Mastiff, it is generally not a good jogging companion. And the exercise needs of this breed are moderate. To be specific, a 20-30 minute walk regularly is enough to satisfy a Mastiff.
