I am the Border Terrier, often described as a hard nail while working. However, at home, I am an affectionate and good-tempered dog-breed. I was initially bred to help hunt foxes by forcing them out of hiding to open places where hounds can chase them. But nowadays, I make a fine family member. However, I still have that powerful hunt drive and energy levels similar to back then. All-in-all, I like to play hard and love even harder.
Even after being a terrier, the Border Terrier is an even-tempered, obedient, and affectionate dog breed. However, it is fearless and relentless. And just like many other terriers, the Border is highly intelligent and a quick learner. What's more, it is very good at detecting cues indicating the owner is going for a walk. Likewise, the Border also understands pretty well what the owners like or don't like it to chew.
Furthermore, the Border Terrier thrives when this breed is with its family.
The Border Terrier can adapt pretty well to apartment living as long as it is getting enough exercise. And it doesn't have a barking tendency. Moreover, this breed is not meant for outdoor living with little human interaction. As a matter of fact, when left alone, the Border can be destructive and noisy. In other words, it cannot tolerate being alone. Plus, it is not too fond of other small animals, but it is generally good with children and strangers.
Moreover, the Border Terrier can have a solid prey drive even when not nurtured as a hunting dog.
When it comes to size, the Border Terrier is big enough to keep up with hunters on horses and small enough to go through small places. To be specific, the female Border can weigh 11.5-14 pounds, and the males can be around 13 to 15.5 pounds. As for height, this breed can stand 10-11 inches.
The Border Terrier is a remarkably active dog breed with exceptional energy levels. It is an outdoorsy dog breed and does well with access to plenty of outdoor space.
Interestingly, the Border Terrier is not as crazy as most terriers for work but enjoys being on the job and should be exposed to at least an hour's physical activity every day. In fact, vigorous physical exercise is a necessity for this breed. Just give this dog breed enough physical activity, it will turn out to be a loyal, affectionate, and best companion for life.
